Bio: Rita Meher is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Tasveer Film Festival, the nation’s leading South Asian film organization and the only Oscar®-qualifying South Asian film festival in the world. For 23 years, she has championed social change through films and storytelling, elevating underrepresented voices and building global platforms for South Asian narratives. Rita began her media journey in Japan in 1995 as a TV producer, later working as a TV producer in Seattle. A JNU graduate (BA in Japanese), she edited the award-winning Bangladeshi documentary Threads, directed the short Citizenship101 on immigrant experiences, and produced Zewel for the festival circuit. In 2025, she was awarded the Seattle Mayor’s Award for Excellence in Film.
